China's Tianjin begins nationwide testing of COVID-19 after first community omei infection
BEIJING (Reuters) - The city of Tianjin, near the Chinese capital Beijing, began testing COVID-19 for the entire city on Sunday after at least one community infection with the new Omicron mutation virus. Two cases were first discovered. This was released by Reuters on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
People in four districts will be tested within the next 24 hours, while in other districts the tests will start the next day, according to the Tianjin city administration. People in Tianjin will receive the green health code required for travel after their test results are negative. Tianjin has a total population of nearly 14 million.
On Sunday, the Chinese health authorities reported 165 new cases of COVID-19 for January 8. Of these, 92 were community-based cases, most of which were reported in Henan and Shaanxi provinces. As of January 8, 2022, China had a total of 103,619 cases, while the death toll remained the same at 4,636.
