He added that the Rice Federation of Cambodia is ready with its members for 2022 and 2023 to promote and promote sales in international markets through exhibitions, face-to-face meetings with buyers and work directly with the Ministry of Commerce in Direct negotiations with importing countries such as China, East Timor and other countries.
However, he said that although the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) and the Free Trade Agreement between Cambodia and China entered into force on January 1, 2021, both This does not seem to benefit rice exports, as all free agreements generally do not apply to sensitive goods on the production and supply of food security, such as rice, wheat ... No, in accordance with the common principles of the WTO by setting an appropriate import quota system called TRQ (Tariff Rate Quota).
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2021, Cambodia earned more than 527 million US dollars from rice exports, exporting 610,000 tons, a decrease of 10.68% compared to the volume in 2020. Rice exports were more than 3.5 million tons, up 61.16%, earning more than 631 million US dollars.
