Samdech Techo Hun Sen Proposes to Include North Korean Taekwondo in 2023 SEA Games to Encourage Unification of the Korean Peninsula
(Phnom Penh): Speaking at the award ceremony for Ouk Srey Mom after winning the world gold medal in the patent competition in Santa Susana, Spain, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia on the morning of the 5th. In January 2022, the National Organizing Committee requested the 32nd SEA Games to include North Korea's ITF Taekwondo and South Korea's WTF in the 2023 SEA Games, which Cambodia will host. Together to encourage the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
The head of the Royal Government of Cambodia proposed: "And there is another sport that has not yet entered the Olympics and do not know whether our 2023 SEA Games will be included or not, is the ITF Taekwondo of Korea. Feet ...! If South Korea is included, then North Korea should be included. If I can beg the Olympic Committee to avoid, if it wants to unite Korea, encourage Korea to make national reconciliation, then the International Olympic Committee should put both sports in Korea. "The South has entered and only North Korean sports are left. This is my request ...!"
If we want a national reconciliation between South and North Korea, we should encourage the two sports to go together, which in the past at the Olympics, North and South Korea jointly created "As a mixed team, if you come to Cambodia, take both the ITF of North Korea and the WTF of South Korea as part of the effort to bring the two Koreas towards national unity."
On that occasion, Samdech Techo stressed that for politicians like the President of South Korea before the pity is trying to reach a compromise agreement with North and South Korea. So if this is a compromise process, it's us outsiders who want to see a peaceful Korean peninsula should support North Korean sports in the International Olympic Committee.
According to the Prime Minister of Cambodia, North Korean taekwondo under the leadership of Keo Remy is a strong sport that has won many gold medals. For the purpose of including North Korean taekwondo in the SEA Games, which Cambodia is hosting, unless there is support from other countries. Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, confirmed that the preparation of North Korean taekwondo for the SEA Games has the support of four countries, so the sport can be included in the competition.
In addition, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that for the 32nd SEA Games, which will be held in May 2023, which Cambodia will host, will not raise the time, no matter what the situation. The reason why Cambodia does not raise this time is because in 2023, there will be many events happening in Cambodia, such as the National Assembly election.
In August 2021, Cambodian athletes won five medals at the 14th ITF Taekwondo World Championships for Kindergarten Youth and the 21st for the Bulgarian national team.
For ITF Taekwondo, Cambodia won the World Championships, including: 1 gold medal by Pal Chivoan in 5m individual medley and 2 silver medals in 45kg individual martial arts. Grammed by four players, Chantharath and 6 special acting disciplines. The bronze medal was won in two events in the men's four-team performance and the individual 40- to 49-year-old individual divisions.
