Iranian negotiators see positive trend and progress in nuclear talks

Tehran: Iran's chief negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani on Wednesday said that the ongoing nuclear talks in Vienna focus on the lifting of US sanctions. He added that the outlook for the talks was "positive" and "progressive". This is according to the release by the Chinese newspaper CGTN on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Ali Bagheri Kani made the remarks before entering the Palais Coburg Hotel, where talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) are under way. Kany noted that everyone is stepping up efforts to achieve results during the eighth round of talks.

"The effective lifting of US sanctions on Iran is the key to reaching an agreement, and if the other parties show certainty," he said. An agreement will be reached soon.

Iran and five other JCPOA signatories, including China, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, have held several rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, to try to revive the nuclear deal after the United States. One of the signatories withdrew in 2018 under the administration of former President Donald Trump. Washington has not been directly involved in the talks.
