(Phnom Penh): Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has stated that in resolving the crisis in Myanmar, Cambodia has no intention of pursuing any political, economic or strategic interests.

This is what the Cambodian diplomat said during the Q&A session of "23rd ASEAN Lecture: Cambodia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2022" organized by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute on January 3, 2022. Through a video system released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 5.

Mr. Prak Sokhon reiterated Cambodia's position in resolving the crisis in Myanmar, arguing that the crisis in Myanmar is a crisis of ASEAN as a whole and that ASEAN, which has only nine countries, is not a consensus-based ASEAN. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, will lead a high-level delegation to visit the country from January 7 to 8, 2022.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon stated: "This issue will not be resolved by a single visit two or three times or during the rotating chairmanship, and one point I would like to emphasize is that Cambodia does not Do not seek any political, economic or strategic gain from what we are doing in Myanmar. "We just want to help because Cambodia has the tragedy of civil war, tragedy and suffering, and we want to help the people of Myanmar avoid such tragedies."

He added that Cambodia will not decide on behalf of the people of Myanmar. But as the Thai Foreign Minister said, it takes time and patience, and when he is a special envoy, he will add another value: pragmatism.

Mr. Prak Sokhon added, "We will start with the simplest of issues in the five points of the 5PCs." I would like to reiterate that as a Special Envoy, I will abide by the 5PCs and the ASEAN Charter. "My role will be to mediate and mediate, and the whole political process will be led by Myanmar."

Myanmar, a young member of ASEAN, is absent from the 2021 ASEAN Summit after facing internal political crises and protracted turmoil for nearly a year since the military coup led by Ming. Aung San Suu Kyi ousted Aung San Suu Kyi's party after the election. The absence of Myanmar has led ASEAN to lose consensus in previous meetings.

Through a special summit on April 24, 2021, ASEAN has set out five principles, three of which were initiated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen in response to the political crisis in Myanmar. Includes:

 * First, the violence in Myanmar must be stopped immediately and all parties must increase their tolerance to the highest level.
 * Second: Start a constructive dialogue among all stakeholders to find a peaceful solution for the benefit of the people.
 * Third: The Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair will facilitate the facilitation of the dialogue process with the assistance of the ASEAN Secretary-General.
 * Fourth: ASEAN must provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA.
5th: Special envoys and delegations will visit Myanmar to meet with all stakeholders.

On January 5, 2022, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also confirmed that his official visit to Myanmar will not discuss anything beyond the five principles of ASEAN set out in the special summit.

Speaking at the award ceremony for Ouk Srey Mom after winning the world gold medal from the Spanish patent competition, Samdech further stated that Samdech's trip to Myanmar is not to benefit from this country.
