 (Phnom Penh): The Government of Japan on December 20, 2021, through its Embassy in Cambodia, signed a grant of US $ 280,378 for the construction of school buildings and the rehabilitation of irrigation systems to a number of recipient units. 3 Under the Grant Scheme for Small-Scale Human Security Project (Kusanoun Grant).

 The grant agreement was signed in the presence of Mr. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia and representatives of the three recipients to implement the following projects:

 First: Project to build a school building at O'Yadao Secondary School in O'Yadao District, Rattanakiri Province (US $ 98,317) Recipient: Department of Education, Youth and Sports, Rattanakiri Province.

 In this project, a school building with 6 classrooms, furniture, classrooms, 4 toilets and 1 water tank will be built at O'Yadao Secondary School in Ratanakkiri Province. At this school, students, mostly ethnic minorities, study in crowded classrooms due to the lack of school infrastructure, which can have a negative impact on classroom management and motivation to study. We expect this project to benefit 455 students and 15 teachers by improving the learning environment and the quality of education.

 Second: Construction of school building at Orussey Leu 1 Primary School and Orussey Leu 2 Primary School in Siem Bok district, Stung Treng province (budget $ 91,566) Recipient: Department of Education, Youth and Sports, Stung Treng Province

 In this project, a school building with 3 classrooms equipped with classroom furniture and a water tank will be built at Orussey Leu 1 Primary School and a school building with 3 classrooms equipped with classrooms, toilets And one water tank will be built at Orussey Leu 2 Primary School in Stung Treng Province. Currently, ethnic minority students at both schools find it difficult to study due to the dilapidated wooden school buildings. This project will ensure a safer and more comfortable learning environment and we expect to benefit a total of 201 students and 8 teachers by improving the quality of education.

 Third: O Sambour Irrigation Rehabilitation Project in Kampong Speu Province (US $ 90,495) Recipient Unit: Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology

 The grant will be used to rehabilitate an existing dam and two canals in Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu province. We expect the project to benefit more than 3,300 local people by ensuring a stable water supply for livelihoods and agricultural activities.

 The project will increase the amount of agricultural products and farmers' incomes, and will also improve the quality of life of the people. Japan's Kusanor Grant began in Cambodia in 1991 to support Cambodia's efforts to develop and rebuild the country at the grassroots level. The grant aims to protect vulnerable people from a number of factors, such as poverty and / or misfortune, which could directly threaten their lives, livelihoods and dignity, as well as boost their self-reliance. Communities.

 Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided more than $ 64 million to local authorities and NGOs to implement 651 Kusano projects across Cambodia.

 According to Mikami Masahiro, since 1991, in addition to large-scale loans and grants, the Japanese government has been implementing the Kusano program in Cambodia to directly assist local authorities and NGOs in implementing its projects. They.

 Kusano means "grass root" in Japanese. In the last 30 years, the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia has contributed to more than 650 projects through the Kusano Foundation Grant.
