Death toll from new Omicron virus in UK rises to 12
LONDON (Reuters) - The death toll from the new Omicron virus in the United Kingdom has risen to 12, Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said on Monday. This is according to a release by Reuters.
In addition to the 12 deaths, Dominic also confirmed that 104 patients with the new Omicron mutation were hospitalized. British officials last week warned that the number of hospitalized patients could rise again as the number of daily COVID-19 infections caused by Omicron has recovered in recent days. When asked if the British government would introduce new sanctions before Christmas, Dominic said he could not comment.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), so far the first reported Omicron mutation in South Africa has spread to at least 89 countries, and preliminary data and studies show that The virus has the ability to transmit the disease faster than the new Delta virus, but there is no evidence that it is vicious or that it can make people very sick.
